Get to Know Tayjia Wright, M.Ed. (She|Her)
Doctoral Intern
Tayjia Wright, she/her, is a doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology completing her internship at the University of Cincinnati Counseling Center. Before pursuing psychology, she worked as a special education teacher supporting students with learning and emotional difficulties, an experience that shaped her passion for helping individuals and families navigate complex challenges with compassion and creativity. She has since built a professional background spanning both clinical and educational settings, with experience supporting children, families, and adults in fostering growth and well-being.
Her clinical interests include trauma recovery, attachment healing, identity development, and holistic approaches to wellness. She is especially drawn to working with individuals whose voices are often overlooked or whose stories are underrepresented, and she values creating spaces where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered. A central part of her work is helping clients meet themselves with radical forgiveness and self-compassion — a practice she is also uncovering and embracing in her own journey.
Tayjia’s therapeutic style integrates relational, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, and emotion-focused approaches. She weaves in creativity, spirituality, and strengths-based practices, supporting clients as they process and work through difficult emotions while uncovering resilience, deepening self-understanding, and cultivating healing in ways that honor the whole person.
Outside of her clinical work, Tayjia enjoys writing, wellness retreats, and spending time with her son.
If I wasn’t in this line of work, I would be: A writer or creative storyteller… or maybe a reality TV star or wedding planner (because both sounds equally dramatic and fun).
What I do to take care of myself after a challenging day or situation: I recharge through journaling, listening to music, going on a walk, or hitting the gym to clear my head and re-center.
Why I became a counselor: I believe in the power of safe, authentic relationships to transform lives, and I feel called to walk with others as they heal, grow, and rediscover their strength.
