Get to Know Conner Goode, MA (She|Her)
Doctoral Intern
Conner Goode (she/her) is a Psychology Doctoral Intern located at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. She is currently completing her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Denver. She has earned a master’s in clinical psychology from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology from The Ohio State University.
Conner’s therapeutic approach seeks to understand the entire person, giving particular attention to trauma-informed modalities and culturally competent interventions. She leans into ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and Existential-Humanistic theoretical orientations with an emphasis on creating a safe, intentional space for clients to show up just as they are. Her goal is to make clients feel unapologetically themselves within the therapy space to allow for deeper, more honest exploration of what could help clients live a more value-aligned life. She enjoys helping clients navigate anxiety symptoms, perfectionistic tendencies, rigid thought patterns, major life transitions, and identity exploration. She also has a strong interest in working with clients who may be seeking formal support for the first time.
Why did I become a counselor: I became a psychologist to hold the stories of all the people that have joined my therapy space. To be able to witness all the strength, joy, pain, resilience, and every emotion in between that comes with the human experience is such a fulfilling way to spend my workdays. Humans are meant to connect with one another, and this is my way of facilitating such connection.
If I wasn’t in this line of work, I would be: Either a soccer coach or a textbook/presentation designer as I love creating concept maps and beautiful ways to disseminate valuable information!
An App I downloaded for my own mental health: ‘How We Feel’ is a free app in which you can complete daily check-ins of your current emotions. It has such a wide range of emotions including their definitions, so you can increase your emotional language while strengthening your self-awareness. I use it daily to force myself to slow down and take inventory on what I may need for that moment to continue my day.
