Get to Know Grayling Keune, MA (He|Him)
Practicum Trainee
Grayling Keune, he/him, is a 20-hr psychology practicum trainee at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. He graduated from Xavier University with a master’s degree in psychology in 2024. Grayling is working on gaining his direct clinical hours in preparation for clinical internship.
Grayling utilizes a general therapeutic approach, emphasizing where the student is, and meeting and accepting them for who they are. He prioritizes a supportive space, client needs, and a collaborative relationship. He is grounded in genuineness, curiosity, and cultural humility, believing these elements set the stage for new insights, change, and skill-building. He is informed by Existential and Biopsychosocial theory and has strong interests in working with students navigating grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, and questions of meaning in life. His collaborative approach incorporates the use of metaphors and elements from third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy techniques (e.g., ACT and DBT) to support clients in generating solutions. His goal is to equip students with the skills to become their own support system, fostering long-term adaptability, resilience, and acceptance in an ever-changing world.
When not at work, Grayling enjoys pretending to be a professional National Geographic photographer, painting, playing video games, camping, exploring local breweries and restaurants, and watching off-grid living videos. His favorite bands/musicians are The Lumineers, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and Bob Marley. When he needs time for himself, he becomes a couch potato with his cat or heads out into nature.
If I weren’t in this line of work, I would be: A full-time boat captain for one of those tiki party boats somewhere tropical.
My favorite thing about working at CAPS: Working with all the students!
My favorite sandwich: Burrito
