Practicum Trainee

Dylanne Twitty (she/her) is a 20-hour practicum trainee at the University of Cincinnati CAPS Calhoun location. She is a Clinical Psychology PhD student at UC specializing in the cultural adaptation of interventions for those struggling with addiction and co-occurring challenges. She received her master’s in clinical psychology in Fall 2022. She is in the process of completing her dissertation, accruing more direct clinical hours and applying for her clinical internship. She is passionate about health equity, removing barriers to accessible care and holistic mental health care.

Dylanne utilizes an integrative therapeutic approach, incorporating evidence-based therapies (e.g., cognitive behavioral, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapies) in order to best serve her clients’ needs. While Dylanne has specialized training with clients who struggle with substance use and co-occurring challenges, she has experience working with clients struggling with a wide range of presenting concerns. This includes emotion identification and regulation, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, grief and behavioral ADHD management.

She is person-centered and prioritizes fostering a space for clients to feel safe and supported when sharing their stories and struggles. Dylanne has a great appreciation for incorporating spiritual wellness and non-Western practices into therapy, should the client be interested in exploring. Dylanne centers compassion and cultural humility in her work with clients, with the desire to understand their values and meet them where they are.

My favorite thing about working at CAPS: The opportunity to work with and learn from such an interdisciplinary team of clinicians.

If I wasn’t in this line of work, I would be: An art museum or fashion curator because I love art, design and cultivating a vision.

An app I downloaded for my own mental health: The I am app. The app sends positive affirmations to your phone, and you can even add a widget to your screensaver. It’s funny how on par the affirmation can be with the moment you’re having when it pops up on your screen.
