Resident Advisors
The RA is responsible for promoting the core values of Resident Education and Development to create an environment conducive to living and learning, to foster the personal growth of students and to build a sense of community within the residence hall system. Resident Advisors are supervised by Community Coordinators.
Resident Education & Development recruits RAs during the fall semester for the next academic year. We look for dynamic and responsible leaders to serve as RAs for the UC community. Information sessions will be available for interested students during the recruiting period.
Benefits of Being a Resident Advisor
The RA role has many benefits, which include on-going leadership development opportunities, learning about and serving as a resource to peers across campus, having a lifelong impact on a student's collegiate experience, learning crisis management skills, as well as receiving a housing scholarship.

Recruitment Period
We recruit a year in advance for Resident Advisor positions. Resident Advisor applications for the 2026-2027 school year will open on October 1, 2025. Please visit https://uc.erezlife.com and login with your 6 + 2 and password to access the application. Applications for Resident Advisor candidates are due on November 4, 2025 at 11:59 PM. Interviews will take place during the early spring semester.

RA Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, commuter students are encouraged to apply. We strongly suggest that students express their experience either in a residence hall setting or other leadership type roles (e.g., experience in student organizations and other leadership roles). Experience of living on campus for at least one semester is recommended.
No, new RA applicants must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student to be eligible for the RA position. There are several graduate assistant positions available each year for graduate students interested in employment through Resident Education and Development.
Each student's circumstances are different, so you are encouraged to discuss this with One Stop or Financial Aid prior to applying for the RA position.
Because hall leadership picks based on departmental needs, candidates will not have an opportunity to pick where they would like to work.
Yes. As with all returning RA staff members, you would be asked to complete a returner application and complete the student staff evaluation process, as well as meet with a member of the hall senior staff within Resident Education and Development. With a satisfactory evaluation, you would be considered a returner and could be selected as such when hall community staffs are selected.

Yes!
The RA position is considered 15 hours of work per week. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Interacting with and building community among residents
- Serving on duty an average of one (1) weeknight per week and 2-3 weekends per semester (may vary by building)
- Attending weekly meetings such as hall government and hall staff meetings
- Participating in departmental meetings such as training, in-services, committees and other opportunities that may arise
If you are confident you want to live in University Housing for the 2026-2027 academic year, regardless of employment, you are encouraged to apply for housing during the re-contracting time.
Most of what the RA position requires is within 15 hours per week, but other duties and responsibilities may arise due to the varying needs of the department.
RAs may work up to 9 additional hours per week for an additional on-campus job. An off-campus position is possible with approval from your RA supervisor, to ensure that our RA’s focus is on their academics and their RA position.
Yes! All RAs are asked to commit to a year-long position. As an International student, you may have additional hiring paperwork to complete. You would also be expected to return for training on the designated date and would be asked to make travel arrangements that accommodate that start date.
Yes, but it must be no more than 9 hours if you are employed on campus due to federal regulations. Approval from direct supervisor is needed for additional off campus employment.
Yes! We ask you to fill out an outside involvement form; if your job performance is negatively impacted for outside involvement, you may be asked to decide between lessening the outside commitment or making a choice between that outside commitment and the RA position. Your supervisor would work directly with you on time management skills prior to getting to a crucial point, however.
Because we hold our RAs to high academic standards, and because we have applicants who are qualified for the position and meet the GPA minimum (2.5), unfortunately we are unable to hire anyone who does not meet the GPA minimum (2.5).
Depending on the severity of your violation, you could be removed from the process at the discretion of the selection committee. Students who are not in good standing with the university are not eligible to become an RA.
RED runs grade and conduct checks prior to offering employment. It should be noted that candidates selected for the position are offered a contingent offer of employment based on the successful completion of a background check.
Yes, we just ask that local co-op students be here for interviews, and those who are not local including study abroad students, participate in a Zoom interviews with RED senior staff members.
